6.0 Contact Hours
Course Description
Transport nursing
involves the transfer of emergency and non-emergency patients. This can range from a routine
interfacility transport to critical calls for trauma and medical emergencies. A thorough
physical assessment, anticipation of the potential complications, and being prepared are
the most important factors for transport nursing. This module includes an overview of the
principles of transport including the preparation and special assessment considerations for
the safe transfer of the ground transfer patient.
This learning activity serves as a comprehensive guide to prepare for ground transport and
the safe transfer of the patient. This learning activity serves as a great orientation tool
for nurses wishing to pursue a career in ground transport.
Target Audience
The learner
should be an RN or Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) background with three to five years critical
care or Emergency Room experience and be certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
(ACLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (PALS) and/or Neonatal Resuscitation
Program (NRP) may be required if the transport involves children or neonates.
Content Design
A critical component of the instructional design and
curriculum strategy is the ability to offer clinical knowledge that is supported by evidence
and best practice. Real life case scenarios will promote the development of critical thinking
skills. The learning activities offer interactive illustrations, images and animations in an
effort to keep you motivated and to facilitate comprehension of the material. Along with chapter
questions, these elements make your learning experience truly enjoyable.
