Course Description
Transport nursing
involves the transfer of emergency and non-emergency patients. This can range from a routine
interfacility transport to emergency "scene calls" for trauma and medical emergencies.
This module includes an overview of the principles of flight including the gas laws, stressors
of flight and subsequent effects on the patient and crew, and special assessment considerations
for the preparation and safe transfer of the Aircare patient.
This course has the goal of facilitating knowledge and confidence in the care of the fixed
wing air care patient. This learning activity serves as a comprehensive guide to prepare
for flight transport and the safe transfer of the patient.
Target Audience
This module
is designed for nurses who are interested in becoming a flight transport nurse or as an orientation
tool for services hiring on new flight nurses. The learner should be an RN or Advanced Care
Paramedic (ACP) with three to five years critical care or Emergency Room experience.
